| The Best Way to Win Giant Novelty
Checks |
| February 1, 2008 at 5:32pm |
Jamiah "J-Swith" Anderson is one step
closer to having his name put on the oversized check.
Out of all the ways to be presented with a
giant novelty check, winning a video-game tournament has to be the
best. Sure, you could get a giant check by entering a sweepstakes or
starting a charity, but then you have to rely on random chance or
the generosity of another.
If you're serious about getting your hands on one of those giant
checks, you should take the "proactive" approach by becoming really
good at a video game, entering a tournament and grabbing that
coveted foam-board bank note. Jamiah "J-Swith" Anderson
came one step closer to having an oversized $10,000 check made out
to him when he became the Dallas regional champ in the
NBA
Live Challenge, hosted at our Plano, TX GameStop. We suppose the check has to be that big to
make room for
all of the "zeroes" on it. J-Swith earned himself a spot in
NBA Live Challenge Finals at the NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans, where
he has a chance to win and cash that giant check.
Oversized NBA legend Sam Perkins was on hand to dish out encouragement and autographs.
Speaking of oversized things, NBA legend Sam Perkins dropped by the Dallas Regionals
to cheer on the players, and to sign a few autographs. You never know who you'll
run into at your local GameStop. So pick your favorite game, start practicing, and
keep your eye on our Tournaments
page. It could be your key to meeting large people
and collecting checks that won't fit in your bank's night deposit box. |
| WoW Human Sidewalk Around the World
Halfway Done |
| January 30, 2008 at 5:44pm |
It's getting kind of crowded around here.
Blizzard Entertainment announced last week
that subscriptions for the World of Warcraft Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game have gone over the 10-million mark.
That's a lot subscribers. Allow us to put it into perspective for
you.
If each subscriber were to lay down head-to-foot at the equator, the
line would reach halfway around the world. So if you ever wanted to
walk around the world while only stepping on WoW subscribers, you're
halfway there. Of course, the more "buoyant" subscribers would have
to volunteer for the ocean sections. If they stood shoulder to
shoulder, they could replace the Great Wall of China with the
world's biggest "Red Rover" line. If they stood on each other's
shoulders, the guy on the bottom would not be happy. If you met one
new subscriber a day, it would take you more than 27,000 years to
meet all of them. And here's the most mind-boggling fact: if each of
them gave you one dollar, you'd have like, $10 million, or something
like that.
If you want to contribute to the completion of the World of Warcraft wall around
the world, you can get your own copy of the original World of
Warcraft
here
for the low price of $19.99.
You may also want to check out some of the World of Warcraft expansion packs and accessories

| Super Smash Bros. Brawl to Include
Old-School Demos |
| January 28, 2008 at 5:32pm |
Mario and Bowser have changed a bit since 1985.
When you finally get your eager little hands on your very own copy of
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
on March 9, you're going to see a lot of familiar faces, like Mario,
Sonic, Link and Kirby, to name a few. However, some of the
characters may not be so recognizable, and you may not realize how long
some of the others have been around.
To help you brush up on your gaming history, your copy of Super
Smash Bros. Brawl will include Virtual Console demos of
some old-school NES, SNES and N64 games, like Super Mario Bros., Ice Climber,
The Legend of Zelda, Kid Icarus, Kirby's Adventure, Super Metroid,
and Star Fox 64, as well as a few surprises.
So if you're not sure who Kid Icarus is or what he's doing in your video game, you'll
be able to see for yourself on the trial version of the 1987 game. Or if you'd just
like to check out Mario and his pixelated mullet from 1985, you can do that, too.
March will be here before you know it. Pre-order your copy of Super
Smash Bros. Brawl now. |
